Established in 1919, Lincoln University is a private institution for higher education and research in Oakland. Named to honour President Abraham, the institution was chartered under California Laws in 1926. It was originally based in San Francisco, but the campus was moved to Oakland in 1999. It is affiliated to the CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG), Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). It is also associated with the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools (CAPPS).
The university campus is located in the heart of the vibrant, innovative and thriving city of Oakland and renders an attractive atmosphere for learners. The main building of the university resides within a grand historic structure in the San Francisco Bay Area. The building houses an auditorium, computer lab, study zone, administrative offices and spacious classrooms. It also has a cafeteria and lounge for students to enjoy healthy food and relax. The university has two other buildings on the campus. The academic block on 420 15th Street possesses a state-of-the-art auditorium, the university library, spacious classroom spaces and several offices. The additional building located on 1446 Franklin Street houses the office, classrooms and the laboratory of Diagnostic Imaging faculty.
Notably, the university library possesses more than 150,000 e-books, 4,400 e-journals, about 3,000 business periodicals, 550 full-text journals and other online resources. Students and staff members can access various electronic resources with full-text coverage on different subjects of study. The campus is close to the Bay Area Rapid Transit and several other bus routes. The university confers six degrees that include B.Sc in Diagnostic Imaging, Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, Master of Business Administration, M.Sc in Finance Management and M.Sc in International Business. Doctor of Business Administration is available until 2020.
The university offers Information Technology and Humanities as minor options for the bachelor's programme in arts. The institute prepares students for the professional roles in advertising, business, education, journalism and public speaking. Subjects taught at the university include psychology, English, computer science, history, social sciences, mathematics, natural sciences and economics. The graduate business programmes of the university are approved by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE). It has about 648 students enrolled for various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programmes.
