In our German studies program, you will become familiar with the German language, grammatical practices, literature, and culture. The ability to communicate in a different language broadens appreciation of other cultures and increases your opportunities in the job market. The study of languages also helps you develop stronger communication and critical thinking skills, useful to a wide variety of professions.
Acadia offers small class sizes which allow you improved interaction with professors and classmates inside and outside the classroom. Professors in the German program at Acadia use the newest technology in teaching and learning a foreign language. By your fourth year, you will have achieved the necessary skills to fully function in a German-speaking environment. Classes focus on speaking, listening, and writing, using a combination of multimedia tools. Through extracurricular activities, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the cultural life of German-speaking countries. If you are majoring in German you will take one year of study in Freiburg, Germany. German is also very popular as a double major and as a minor.
