Eligibility

General Entry Requirements

In addition to the general entry requirements for admission to the university the following entry requirements apply

Minimum of O3 or H6 in Mathematics and minimum of O3 or H5 in one of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics with Chemistry, Agricultural Science or Computer Science.

Leaving Cert

In addition to the general entry requirements for admission to the university the following entry requirements apply

Minimum of O3 or H6 in Mathematics and minimum of O3 or H5 in one of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics with Chemistry or Agricultural Science

GCE A Level

In addition to the general entry requirements for admission to the university the following entry requirements apply

GCE A Level D or GCE AS Level C or GCSE B Mathematics and GCE A Level D or GCE AS Level C or GCSE B in one of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics with Chemistry or Agricultural Science

FET Level 5

EU Transfer Applications

Holders of Higher Certificate/National Certificates or Bachelor (Ordinary) Degree/National Diplomas with Merit or Distinction may be admitted into second year if the relevant Programme Boards are satisfied that the candidate has achieved an appropriate standard in the major subjects covered in Year One. Direct entry into third year is possible for well-motivated students holding a distinction at Diploma level in a related discipline. Applications are made via the CAO Advanced Entry route which will open on the 1st Feb to the 1st May 2022.

International Applications

International candidates are expected to have educational qualifications of a standard equivalent to those outlined above. In addition, where such candidates are non-native speakers of the English language they must satisfy the university of their competency in the English language. Admission Process

1. Application along with supporting documents will be processed on TEN Agent portal.
2. Student will receive the admission offer either conditional or unconditional on his TEN Agent portal.After accepting the offer Fee invoice will be generated on student account.
3 .After getting the fee invoice student can pay the fee and fee receipt can be found on TEN Portal  (Ten Agents).

Description

This is a four-year full-time degree course. The four years are broken down as follows:

Year One: learning and developing essential background knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology that are the basis for a career in environmental science. The first field trip occurs in semester 2.

Year Two: building on the four areas of study in year one from an environmental viewpoint, as well as developing IT and computing skills. Modules include Microbiology and Genetics, Pollution and Biosphere, Water Chemistry and Environmental Analysis. Field trips in several subjects.

Year Three:  Climate Change science is introduced, and the study of climate is encouraged through fieldwork and modules such as Environmental Monitoring & Data Analysis. Students continue to develop in environmental aspects of biotechnology, chemistry and physics. Modules include Atmospheric and Aquatic Science and students have the opportunity to gain experience on a paid work (INTRA) placement. This placement can be anywhere that is environmentally relevant. Practical work is conducted in laboratories and through onsite and field trip visits.

Year Four: Specialised modules include Toxicology, Meteorology, Renewable Energy, Soil and Waste Management. Additionally, students will carry out a semester-long research project, with environmentally relevant topics offered from across the entire Science and Health faculty.
