Cyberseek.org listed more than 10,000 cybersecurity job openings in May 2018 and almost 300,000 openings nationwide. In addition, the Governor's High Demand Career Initiative noted cybersecurity as one of three focus areas, and the Georgia Department of Economic Development cites Georgia as the third-highest information security hub in the nation, with more than 115 cybersecurity companies and annual revenues of almost $5 billion. The impending move of U.S. Army Cyber Command to Georgia's Fort Gordon, which will be led by UNG alumnus Maj. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, also raises Georgia's national profile in the cybersecurity field.
Bachelor of Science
To meet such demand in our region and across the nation, the Mike Cottrell College of Business is proud to offer a Bachelor of Science with a major in cybersecurity.
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in cybersecurity prepares the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to protect and defend industry, government and military data and networks. Students pursuing a B.S. with a major in Cybersecurity will take a variety of computer science and cybersecurity courses focused on script programming, data networks and practical applications in cybersecurity as well as an intensive capstone project. The B.S. with a major in cybersecurity is designed in alignment with the NIST/NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework's SP, PR, AN, and IN categories.
In addition to this academic degree program, the Mike Cottrell College of Business offers a graduate certificate in cybersecurity and is home to the Institute for Cyber Operations Education.
UNG is designated as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency and is one of six federally designated senior military colleges in the nation.
