The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) supports individuals to become competent social work practitioners within their communities. It enables students to apply for professional registration to be a social worker practitioner in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
Fundamental to EIT’s BSW is the principle that all people, family, and communities have strengths and the capacity to embark on a process of positive change. Social work placements are a key part of the programme and there are 2 placements in year 3 and 4.
Students will develop the understanding, personal attributes, knowledge and skills needed to be competent social workers in a range of fields, some of which include, family work, health and
education, child protection, drug and alcohol, family violence, working with probation and youth services.
The BSW is taught using an inquiry approach and a blended mode of delivery with both regular classroom sessions and online activities. Both the classroom sessions and the online delivery
are interactive and focus on building relationships as well as the knowledge and skills needed by social workers. This Inquiry based degree will prepare students to practise within the bicultural social work context of Aotearoa.
