Eligibility

International Students

  • Proof of English Language Proficiency. If you earned a bachelor degree in a country whose official language is not English, you must demonstrate English language proficiency by earning a passing score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). TOEFL required minimum score: 550 (paper-based exam) or 80 (internet-based). IELTS required minimum score: 6.5. When requesting official scores, please refer to FIU Institution code 5206. TOEFL / IELTS scores are valid for two years. View list of TOEFL/IELTS-exempt countries.

  • Official Transcripts Translation. If official transcripts are not in English, a second copy of the transcript must be requested for translation by an official translation agency. Both the official translation, as well as the original transcripts, must be submitted to FIU.

  • Certified Copy of Diploma. If you obtained your degree at a foreign institution.

Note to international students: I-20s or F-1 transfers will not be issued since it is an online program.

Admission Process

1. Application along with all the supporting documents will be processed on the "The Edu Network" portal. An application fee of $30 will be charged from the student. 

College will Check your Application Status to ensure we have received all required documents to evaluate your application.

2. Once academically accepted to FIU, you will request an I-20 from the Center for Global Engagement. You will need to submit the required information to request the I-20.

The GSC track prepares graduates to be globally-minded and socially responsible communication leaders and innovators at the highest levels of corporate, government and non-profit organizations. The Master's in Global Strategic Communications, in partnership with the Center for Labor Research and Studies, offers students the opportunity to obtain a master's degree in Global Strategic Communications with a Graduate Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Consensus Building. This option provides students the skills necessary to effectively communicate, operate, and manage complex communication conflicts within the global market.

What You Need to Apply to FIU

  • Financial Statement: Sponsor's Official Bank Statement to demonstrate you can meet FIU estimated tuition and living expenses.
  • A copy of your passport information and expiration page.
  • Transcripts: Records from the last school attended. If the school was a college, university, or high school within the US, official transcripts must be sent directly from the awarding institution to the International Education Center at SMC. US transcripts must show a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Application Fee: The fee to apply is $30.00 USD and is nonrefundable.
  • Proof of English Proficiency.
  • Essay: Write a personal essay (must be at least 500 words) explaining your reason(s) for applying to Florida International University.
