Description

Economics is a social science that examines the production, distribution, sales and purchases of goods and services. It is a global force that influences business and government, and permeates every aspect of our lives.

Why Choose Economics

The Well-Rounded Education

Both the School of Business and the School of Liberal Arts offer economics degrees. So which do you choose? Pursuing an economics degree in the School of Business (B.S.) is ideal if you:

  • Excel at and enjoy mathematics
  • Want to pursue hands-on economics such as trading or studying financial markets
  • Want to pursue a master’s degree or Ph.D. in economics
  • Are interested in taking business-centric electives
  • Want to double major in finance or another business program

Whether you pursue a B.S. or a B.A. in economics, you will study a liberal arts core at Manhattan College. These are the classes that hone your writing, interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Your business courses round out your education and provide the more technical, quantitative skills.

The Real World Preparation

Real world preparation starts in the classroom. Our professors are trusted experts in the field of economics. They are published authors and world-class researchers. They hold students to a high academic standard, and this is evident in the success of our graduates. Students are encouraged to engage in widely-available NYC internships to help them prepare for a professional career. In today’s competitive job market, economics graduates are working for:

  • Goldman Sachs
  • American Express
  • Bloomberg
  • JP Morgan

Outside of the classroom, you have one of the world’s greatest economic centers at your disposal. As an undergraduate student, you may have the chance to:

  • Tour New York City’s economic landmarks from Wall Street to the New York Stock Exchange
  • Conduct one-on-one research with a faculty member
  • Intern at a Fortune 500 company
  • Take part in the College Fed Challenge, a rigorous academic competition judged by economists from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York
