Making sense of the large amounts of data that are being produced in business, industry and government requires a combination of mathematical modeling, programming and analysis. Data analysts combine these tools to solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
In our graduate program, you will master probabilistic modeling, databases and machine learning, operations research and statistics, and work on projects that combine these tools to solve complex problems and make informed decisions.
Career Outcomes
Analytics is one of the fastest growing fields in business, industry and government. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, job growth in this field will increase by 30% in the next 10 years.
Students who graduate from the Applied Mathematics-Data Analytics program have strong career choices with all of our recent graduates obtaining a job within six months of graduation and many students having job offers before they graduate. The department helps to create these opportunities by supporting students in the internship and job application process and connecting them with alumni at companies including Celonis, UPS, Blackrock, and ConEd. The department also has agreements with local nonprofit organizations like Casita Maria, which provides after school activities for children in the Bronx, to provide opportunities for applying data analytics to social justice issues.
As part of the graduate program, students are encouraged to complete internships. Recent students have interned for UPS, Blackrock, 1010 Data and the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
