Analytics is one of the fastest growing fields in business, industry and government. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, job growth in this field will increase by 30% in the next 10 years.
Students who graduate from the Applied Mathematics-Data Analytics program have strong career choices with all of our recent graduates obtaining a job within six months of graduation and many students having job offers before they graduate. The department helps to create these opportunities by supporting students in the internship and job application process and connecting them with alumni at companies including Celonis, UPS, Blackrock, and ConEd. The department also has agreements with local nonprofit organizations like Casita Maria, which provides after school activities for children in the Bronx, to provide opportunities for applying data analytics to social justice issues.
As part of the M.S. program, students are encouraged to complete internships. Recent students have interned for UPS, Blackrock, 1010 Data and the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
Students interested in obtaining a Ph.D. receive guidance during their Ph.D. application process. Students from our department have been successful in obtaining acceptances into Ph.D. programs in applied mathematics, statistics, and operations research at schools that include Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Pennsylvania State University, and Michigan State University.
