Mathematics is a universal language which allows us to describe abstract concepts and natural phenomena. It has aesthetic beauty and practical application.
This program is for individuals who hope to pursue the PhD in Mathematics or a related discipline, or who wish to teach mathematics in a community college. Students in the M.S. in Mathematics program interested in obtaining a Ph.D. receive individual attention from faculty in the way of independent studies and guidance during their Ph.D. application process.
Career Outcomes
Students from our department have been successful in obtaining acceptances into Ph.D. programs in mathematics including those at Brandeis University, Wesleyan University, Syracuse University, and Lehigh University.
Flexibility and Time to Completion
This program may be completed on either a full-time or a part-time basis. Qualified undergraduates may begin graduate classes as upperclassmen, thereby enabling completion of the MS degree in a single postgraduate year plus two summers. Students who are undergraduates at Manhattan College are able to count six credits of graduate coursework toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Financial Support
The total cost for a master's degree is competitive for graduate programs in New York City. In addition to loans, financial support for graduate students in the M.S. in Mathematics is available on a competitive basis in the form of graduate assistantships and research assistantships
