Two great institutions
Students from around the world enrol in this unique four-year program, which combines hands-on studio work at Sheridan with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto Mississauga (artandarthistory.ca). You'll attend both schools concurrently, studying the visual arts across societies and centuries while you develop an artistic identity of your own.
Art
At Sheridan, discover a range of personal approaches to visual expression. Begin studio work in your first semester, and complete problem-based assignments in six studios: drawing, painting, sculpture/installation, print media, design and photography. In upper-level studios, refine your expertise by developing a body of self-directed artwork in a class environment of discussion and exchange.
Art history
At UTM, take Art History courses that span from the ancient to the contemporary worlds. Learn different approaches to the analysis and interpretation of artefacts and understand the role of visual creativity in shaping cultures and communities. Additionally, learn about the history and methods of the discipline and have the opportunity to take courses in curatorial studies.
Additional information
Art speaks to us as individuals, and it helps us understand whole cultures. In the Art and Art History degree program, you’ll gain insight on both levels.
At the end of this rigorous, challenging and rewarding program you'll have:
A number of graduates are practicing artists who exhibit their work in artist-run, public and private galleries, both nationally and internationally. Others have pursued graduate studies in studio art, art history, conservation, or related fields in the humanities, leading to an MFA, MA or PhD degree.
Classes for the Art and Art History (Bachelor of Arts) program are held at the Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville, Ontario, and at the University of Toronto Mississauga.
